The one thing all humans have in common is the fear of being alone. We all want a partner, a friend, a soft place to fall. This is basic human nature. We meet that special someone and before we know it LOVE abounds. We are totally into the other person, we can’t stop thinking about them, and wanting to be with them. The relationship is great, everything is sunshine and smiles. Time passes and one day you wake up and things are different. The sunshine and smiles have turned to dark clouds and tears. Why does this happen? When it does happen, how do we fix it?
Let’s take the common sense approach. First, don’t panic! Everyone goes through ups and downs when in a relationship. It’s normal, and it can be repaired. If you panic and think the world is ending, you can no longer think rationally and you only make a bad situation worse! Take a deep breath, dry your tears, and give yourself and your partner a little space. Sometimes taking time to think things through on your own can give you a great new perspective.

Think about how things were in the beginning. Are you the same happy, fun, flirtatious person you were then? Remember when you would call for no other reason but to hear the voice of the one you loved? Remember when you couldn’t walk down the street without holding hands? Remember when you HAD to look your very best before even considering seeing your partner? Remember when their silly jokes really did make you laugh? Are you still that person? Do you still put in the effort to show you are interested? Do you still light up when your partner enters the room?
Often times a relationship starts to fail when we stop giving it the attention it deserves. We have to take responsibility for our own behavior changing. That has to be the first step! Placing blame and trying to change the other person never works. If you want to save this relationship, you have to put your ego away! Being right is not worth being alone!
Although it is human nature to want a partner, it is just as important that we feel wanted, needed, and desired by that partner. You can take action and save this relationship! Show your partner that you care, EVERY DAY! Take the time to be their biggest fan. We so often take the people we love for granted! We give more courtesy and attention to strangers than we do our partner. It takes real effort. But remember, nothing worthwhile is ever really easy!
