It’s not easy getting over a broken heart. Relationship break-ups can be so painful, you feel as though your heart is literally torn in two.

That happened to me once. I thought my heart would never heal, but eventually it did.

Crying on my friends’ shoulders helped, but there comes a time when you need to stop doing that, before your friends get tired of having a pity party with you every night.

So what helps getting over a broken heart?

Why not take a good, long look at what went wrong in the relationship. Was it your fault? Was it your ex’s fault? Or perhaps each of you were partly at fault.

Be honest with yourself. What would you do differently the next time if you had a second chance?

If you’re feeling angry and frustrated with the situation, why not express your emotions in a letter? It should make you feel better when you’ve got all that anger and frustration out on paper. If you’re writing a letter, make sure you burn it before anyone else sees it though. Do not be tempted to show it to anyone, especially your ex, as it will only make the situation worse!

Once you see your words and emotions go up in flames, you should feel renewed, ready to start thinking about a fresh start right now, or some day soon.

If you really want to get back together with your ex, it may be possible. But only if you’ve really examined your relationship and know the reason why it didn’t work out.

If you do contact your ex about a reconciliation, you’ll be able to tell him or her why you think the relationship broke down, and what you can both do to fix things.

But I must warn you:

There’s a right way and a wrong way to contact your ex if you have hopes of getting back together. So before you do anything, take a deep breath and ask yourself if you’re making the right decision in getting over a broken heart.
