The Top Five Ways to Deal with a Break Up

Though relationships come and go, it can be incredibly difficult to let go when your current relationship does not work out. Breaking up can be a traumatic and trying time in your life and you may feel as if you will never get over your broken heart. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can cope with your situation and begin to get your life back to normal. Here are the top 5 ways to deal with a break up.

1. Keep a journal. One way that you can begin to heal your heartache is to come to terms with what you are feeling. Keeping a journal is a great way to do that. At the end of each day, write about how you feel and what you are going through. This is much better than keeping your feelings bottled up inside. Make an effort to write about both the good and bad aspects of your relationship. When you are going through a break up, it is always tempting to only reminisce about the good times. Make sure that when you are writing in your journal, you are honest about how the relationship was going in the end. You don’t want to overly glorify a relationship that clearly was not working out.

2. Start a new routine. Another good way to deal with your break up is to begin a new routine or a new hobby. By focusing on something other than your relationship, you can begin to think more and more about your new interest and less and less about the pain you are feeling. Think about all the things that you have wanted to do in your life. If you have always wanted to learn to knit or perhaps take up playing the guitar, then now is the time to start.

3. Exercise Daily. Getting plenty of physical exercise is a fantastic way to begin to feel better mentally. Exercise increases your endorphins and this can help you to think more positively about your situation. You will also be doing something positive for you life.

4. Reconnect with your friends. It is possible that you may have lost touch with several of your friends since you have been focused on your relationship. If this is the case, then now is a good time to reconnect. Talking things out with a supportive friend can go a long way in helping you to get over your break up. Make plans to go out to dinner with friends or go see a movie. You’ll feel better about your life and you will have something to look forward to.

5.Take a trip. Spend a few days getting away from it all. Even just a four day weekend away from work will help you to refocus and renew your energy. A cabin or a beach are both good places to consider since you can relax and enjoy the view while you recover from your break up. Spend some time curled up in a good book or catching up on your favorite TV show. This will ease your mind and give you a little bit of time to gather your thoughts before you have to face your family and co-workers.

By taking some time for yourself to get your head together, you will begin to heal from your break up. Getting on with your life is never an easy task, but you can do it.
